Snow may fall on Bengal, but gold could lie beneath. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has confirmed 9 potential sites. This discovery was shared by the Union Ministry of Mines. Experts emphasise that these are early-stage findings, not proven reserves.

Intensified exploration over the past 5 years has mapped valuable resources. GSI surveys also found rare earth elements and other critical minerals. Officials say these elements are key for clean tech and defence industries. Purulia’s Kalapathar–Raghudih block holds about 0.67 million tonnes of rare earth minerals.
