The Eaton Fire ignited on 7 January near Altadena, north of Pasadena. It has already scorched over 1,000 acres, according to CalFire. Strong winds have fuelled its spread, endangering nearby areas.

JPL Director Laurie Leshin confirmed the closure in a social media post. "JPL is closed except for emergency personnel," Leshin shared. She noted no fire damage yet but highlighted nearby evacuations and wind-related destruction.

Hundreds of staff have fled their homes, with some reporting losses. Emergency teams are working tirelessly to safeguard the area.
