Barking geckos belong to the genus Ptenopus, found in southern Africa. They are small, sandy-coloured lizards, perfectly adapted to desert life. Unlike other geckos, they have clawed feet instead of sticky pads.

Their burrows provide safety from predators, heat, and harsh conditions. They are mostly nocturnal, coming out at night to hunt and communicate. These geckos are masters of survival, combining stealth, speed and vocal signals.
