In a significant rebranding move, online food delivery giant Zomato has announced that its parent company, Zomato Limited, will now be known as Eternal Limited.
The decision, approved by the company’s board, was communicated to shareholders by Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal. “Our corporate website will transition from zomato.com to eternal.com. We will also change our stock ticker from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. Eternal will comprise four major businesses (as of now) – Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure,” Goyal stated in a letter.
The rebranding will unify Zomato’s four core business verticals—Zomato (food delivery), Blinkit (quick commerce), District (restaurant management), and Hyperpure (B2B restaurant supplies)—under the Eternal umbrella.
The announcement sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many users expressing confusion about whether the change would affect the Zomato food delivery platform.
"Kya bhai kyu naam badal rhe ho? My mom likes Zomato. It's a bit difficult to say Eternal," one user lamented.
Another quipped, "Zomato aacha naam tha yaaaarr! Eternal mai vo baat nahi hai. Aaj se Swiggy use karuga (Zomato was a nice name. Eternal is not the same, will use Swiggy from today)."
Others drew parallels to previous corporate rebrands, such as Facebook’s transition to Meta and Google’s restructuring under Alphabet.
"Twitter > X, Facebook > Meta, Zomato > Eternal. Only creates complications for us to keep saying. Please founders, nobody cares that much about the name. Let it be what it was, unless you have been convicted of fraud and want to start afresh," one user commented.
Another joked, "I guess we have an end to the debate on whether it is Zo-maa-to or Zo-ma-to! It’s neither. It’s ‘Eternal’ now. On a serious note, it’s just the name of the corporate entity that changes to ‘Eternal’. The platform still remains Zomato, sorry, Zo-maa-to!"
Speculation also arose about the broader vision behind the rebrand, with one user suggesting, "Zomato is now 'Eternally' etched in our minds, and they have decided to rebrand themselves as Eternal. They would surely go beyond food deliveries, maybe entering into groceries and subscription-based deliveries. Idk what runs in the mind of DG, but this is a bold step."
A fourth added, "It's refreshing to see the name of the company change to Eternal. But let Zomato be Zomato (I mean the app)."
Another remarked, "Zomato's new name (Eternal) is a great indicator for how much time it takes for a cloud kitchen to become profitable."
Amid speculation, Zomato issued a clarification on X (formerly Twitter), assuring users that the name change only applied to the parent company and not the food delivery app.
"Guys Eternal is the parent company - the app will remain Zomato," the post on X read.
