Billionaire Miriam Adelson recently made headlines after she reportedly bought a majority stake in US basketball team Dallas Mavericks from fellow billionaire investor investor Mark Cuban.

Here are 10 things to know about the 78-year-old American-Israeli physician, philanthropist, and political donor.

1.) Miriam Adelson and her family are the largest shareholders of the Las Vegas Sands in the US. Headquartered in Nevada, the company owns a number of casinos and resorts in two of the world’s premier gambling hubs: the Las Vegas Strip and in Macau. As per Forbes, Las Vegas Sands also owns the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and is planning to construct a new development on Long Island, New York.

2.) She sold $2 billion worth of Las Vegas Sands stock (about 1 percent of her stake) to buy a professional sports team, the company said in a statement.
