A ‘Made in India’ perfume was unveiled in New York on February 14 as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations that marks 75 years of India’s Independence this year.
The perfume, called ‘Vikas Khanna by Zighrana’ was manufactured in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj - also known as the ‘perfume capital of India’. Perfume maker Zighrana said that it is delighted to work with Michelin star-chef and entrepreneur Vikas Khanna for their first perfume, news agency ANI reported.
The parent company of Zighrana has been creating fragrances since 1911.
Keeping Khanna’s culinary expertise in mind, the perfume was made with a unique combination of fragrances was used.
“The new perfume 'Vikas Khanna' by Zighrana is a unique blend of spices like cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, sandalwood, jasmine and rose which have come to define the unique smells of India for more than a millennia," the company wrote in its press release.
Randhir Jaiswal, the Consulate General of India in New York, launched the perfume.
"This is possibly the first time that you have an Indian perfume from Kannauj (UP), that too, at a time when we are celebrating India's 75 years of Independence," Jaiswal said, ANI reported.
Zighrana CEO Swapnil Pathak Sharma said, "It is an honour to launch the product here in New York. Coming from a small town, it is a dream come true. Presenting my city on such a global platform is a pleasure."
Sharma added that the company plans to launch another fragrance dedicated to Kannauj. The company has also planned to launch more distinct fragrances representing India's history and culture.
