Consumer Electronics Show aka CES is the first major consumer tech show of the year, and sets the tone for what to expect in the coming months. If there was one theme that dominated CES 2024 at Las Vegas, it was AI. No surprises here. From refrigerators to TVs and handhelds, AI was the recurring theme. But CES 2024 was more than just an Artificial intelligence show. A round-up some of the coolest gadgets unveiled at CES:
1. Samsung 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator: what if your fridge could unleash your inner Master Chef. Powered by Samsung’s AI vision Inside feature and internal cameras, this smart fridge can track when ingredients are stored and their expiration date. The fridge sends notifications via Samsung Food. This AI-propelled food and recipe platform will also suggest recipes based on your inventory – it can currently recognise over 30 commonly stored grocery items.
2. Rabbit R1: industry observers are calling this device ChatGPT of the App Store. This ($199; Rs 16,500) device has a 2.88-inch touchscreen and 4G connectivity but it’s not yet ready to replace your smartphone. Think of it as a smart assistant (not very dissimilar to Google Assistant or Alexa) that can control your apps, send texts, order things all through a single interface. It goes beyond just LLMs (large language models), Rabbit has positioned it as a Large Action Model.
3. Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid: one of the best laptop-tablet hybrids we’ve spotted in a while, it’s almost the perfect meeting point between an Android Tab and Windows laptop. Expected to ship in Q2 2024, it maximises your work + play potential; it’s a windows laptop and morphs into an Android tab once you detach the keyboard. You can also use the dedicated button on the keyboard to switch the operating system between Android and Windows, allowing you to use it as a tablet with a keyboard and a trackpad.
4. Samsung Music Frame: Samsung’s Frame can instantly turn into a piece of art. The Music Frame seeks inspiration from the TV. This customisable speaker blends into your living spaces, camouflaged as a modern picture frame. It’s kitted with built-in woofers along with intelligent audio processing for a premium audio experience. It uses Samsung’s Q-Symphony technology; it can function as a standalone wireless speaker (with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity) or hook up with Samsung TVs.

5. LG Signature OLED T: LG typically uses the CES as a platform to showcase cutting-edge TV tech; this year was no exception. LG claims that this new TV liberates homes from the traditional black screen that always competes with your home décor. This is a wireless 77-inch transparent TV. The front panel is transparent with an opaque contrast screen. You can tweak the settings of the contrast screen. The screen is almost invisible when you opt for fully transparent mode. You don’t have to place your TV on the wall anymore; this one blends into your living spaces like TVs have not done in the past.
6. Withings BeamO: positioned as the world’s premier 4-in-1 vital monitor, this device might revolutionise ‘at home’ check-ups. It’s a thermometer, electrocardiogram, stethoscope and pulse oximeter rolled into one and is also pitched as a wellness accessory that can be an effective telemedicine aid. Loaded with multiple sensors and backed by Withings Health Mate App (via Wi-Fi), it helps you manage core vitals from the comfort of your home.
7. Garmin Lily 2: Garmin showcased its most recent update to its Lily line (targeted primarily at women) at CES. The Lily 2 is a great blend of wellness and fashion with unique hidden displays and patterned lenses. The Lily 2 comes in a range of fashion-forward colours and watch bands. This wearable is also loaded with wellness features like stress tracking and Garmin’s Body Battery feature.
8. Clicks: do you still miss your Blackberry? Clicks Technology might have a fix. Clicks is essentially a case (USD 139 / Rs 11,500 onwards) that adds a physical QWERTY (remember this tech term?) keyboard to your iPhone with a bunch of handy keyboard shortcuts. Our favourite feature is that it hides the iPhone virtual keyboard (unless you want it) and expands your screen real estate.
