Every organization can get some inspiration from Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), which despite several setbacks emerged stronger and turned its Odisha’s Angul plant into a success.

JSPL received a jolt when the Supreme Court cancelled all the coal blocks in 2014. Its captive blocks got cancelled and the company also had to pay Rs 3,500 crore.

Moreover, JSPL had invested thousands of crores in various power and steel projects across the country, most of them dependent on coal from its captive mines. One of the biggest investments were setting up an integrated steel plant at Angul, Odisha, also dubbed as ‘Jewel in the crown of Odisha’ by JSPL chairman Naveen Jindal.

“All our plans in last two decades... and we had made investments of Rs. 75,000 crores, whether it was in power projects or steel projects, and we used to plan and we used to take pride that we want to plan projects based on indigenous coal, based on swadeshi coal... If today those coal blocks were not cancelled, power would have been flowing like water in the country,” said Jindal.
