Pop star Beyoncé has dropped two new tracks Texas Hold 'Em and 16 Carriages today (February 12). These country-themed singles are a part of her eighth studio album titled Act II. The artiste hasn’t taken a break after her Renaissance World Tour that concluded in October 2023, and has announced this second portion of the three-part Renaissance project. The album is slated to be out on March 29 this year.
During the Super Bowl 2024 today, the singer’s tracks were announced in a Verizon advertisement with her saying at the end of the clip, “Drop the music”.
Renaissance that released last year, was her first full-fledged album after Lemonade in 2016.
The globally acclaimed singer-songwriter took to her Instagram page and shared the songs on her page. The 42-year-old pop star who has won the Grammy 32-times in her career posted, ‘TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and 16 CARRIAGES out now” in the caption along with her picture.
The song Texas Hold ’Em is about country bars and the Texas heat and the music is ruled by the acoustic guitars and bass drums. It begins with the words, ‘This ain't Texas (Woo), ain't no hold 'em (Hey),/So lay your cards down, down, down, down,/So park your Lexus (Woo) and throw your keys up (Hey), Stick around, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round (Stick around),/And I'll be damned if I can't slow dance with you’.
The other new release, 16 Carriages is more like Beyoncé's life story and journey and has an autobiographical feel to it in the verses she has penned. It opens with ‘Sixteen carriages drivin' away,/While I watch them ride with my dreams away,/To the summer sunset on a holy night,/On a long back road, all the tears I fight’.
While Renaissance did become a fan-favourite, it lost out on the Album of Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Act II might be a different story though.
