Sahara chief Subrata Roy has been sent to the Tihar jail. Roy and two other directors of the group will remain under judicial custody until March 11 till the Supreme Court resumes hearing the Rs 24,000 crore OFCD refund case.
Already in police custody, Subrata Roy appeared in the court today. He apologised to the Supreme Court for not complying with its order and assured the court that he will follow its orders. When the hearing began, Roy made an emotional appeal to the court repeatedly defending his company's directors who are also under the scanner.
Sharing views on SC’s stance with CNBC-TV18’s Shereeen Bhan, Gopal Jain, senior lawyer, Supreme Court sees no ground for this order to be challenged. “Unless they come up with a plan and the court is convinced that it is concrete plan and they do intend to pay the entire money by cheque DD, I don’t see any reason why the order can be changed.”
Agreeing with Jain, senior lawyer, SC, KTS Tulsi said SC has taken a lenient view until now, but now it is running out of patience.
“Roy is in for a long haul. It seems likely that Roy would remain in Tihar jail till March 11. They will have to show the colour of money to the court. You can’t take the apex court for a ride,” Tulsi said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.
