Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Wednesday denied the charges of wrongdoing brought against him in the 2G spectrum allocation as the telecom minister in 2006, but sources said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may file a chargesheet against him for his alleged involvement in the scam.
CBI sources say Shiva Group Chairman C Sivasankaran has filed an complaint against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and deposed before the agency in mid May, in which he gave details of how he was 'forced' to sell his stake in Aircel.
His statement under 161 CrPC will be recorded next week. The CBI is likely to ask him details of the conspiracy as he alleges, regarding what kind of force - monetary or influence - was used on him.
The CBI sources also say Subsequent to Shiva's statement, Dayanidhi Maran and the promoter of Maxis, Anatha Krishnan, can be questioned.
Meanwhile, senior lawyer and Lokpal Bill Drafting Committee member Prashant Bhushan on Wednesday filed an affidavit in Supreme Court in 2G case seeking CBI investigation against Dayanidhi Maran as well as DMK chief Karunanidhi's wives Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal.
He alleges that Maran deliberately delayed giving lisence to Aircel as long as it was owned by Siva Group and as may as 14 liscences were issued to Aircel, when it was taken over by Maxis Group.
He also alleges that Maxis Group made investments in Maran's family run business Sun Network of Rs 599.1 crore.
In addition to investment in Sun Direct, investment of Rs 111.28 crore was made by Maxis in a FM company owned by Marans.
Maran, however, in his statement on Wednesday said all the allegations are false.
"I was totally impartial during my tenure as the telecom minister. No telecom company has directly or indirectly invested in any of the companies owned by my brother when I was telecom minister. I own no shares in Sun Direct," said Dayanidhi Maran in his statement. Also, watch attached video for Siddharth Zarabi of CNBC-TV18's comments on the matter.
