After dropping the bribe bomb, Army Chief General V K Singh has now written a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), detailing the attempt to bribe him. According to sources, the complaint gives the sequence of events that led to the bribe offer.
In the letter, the Army Chief has named Lt General Tejinder Singh as the person who offered a bribe of Rs 14 crore to clear the purchase of sub-standard Tatra trucks.
The investigating agency is yet to decide if a preliminary enquiry or an FIR should be filed. Senior officers of the CBI have also met the Attorney General for legal advice in the case.
The CBI is not registering a case immediately as the allegations are against Lt General Tejinder Singh, a very senior army officer, therefore, the agency has to be cautious in taking the next step.
Also, the supportive documents given by General Singh have to be verified if they are evidence enough to register a case.
The other reason is that a lot of time has elapsed between the complaint and the alleged bribe offer.
CBI officials say a final decision on weather a PE or and FIR should be registered will be taken by Wednesday.
