Case against Chidambaram may not have been strong: Sorabjee

Former attorney general Soli Sorabjee on Saturday supported the 2G trial court order rejecting Janata party President Subramanian Swamy's plea against Home Minister P Chidambaram.

He said that special CBI Judge OP Saini was an efficient judge and his order mean that there may not have been a strong case against Chidambaram. "Judge Saini has a good reputation, he's supposed to be a good and an honest judge. The fact that he has dismissed Swamy's plea means there was nothing prima facie against Chidambaram," he said. "The judge obviously didn't find even a prima facie case to summon Chidambaram or make him a co-accused. But we need to read the judgement clearly and see whether it has ifs and buts. We have to read the reasoning of the order," Sorabjee added. Speaking on Chidambaram, Sorabjee said that the order was a big relief for the Home Minister. "He is a very competent minister, I feel sorry for him that he had to go through so much," Sorabjee said. The role of P Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum allocation scam will not be investigated and he cannot be made a co-accused in the case, a Delhi court ruled on Saturday while dismissing Swamy's petition.
