It seems round two of Team Anna versus the political class has begun. Team Anna's scathing criticism of politicians has not gone down well with Parliamentarians across party lines. The NDA is set to demand the suspension of the Question Hour after Team Anna 'mocked' many politicians including JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav.
The JD(U) chief along with senior Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj are expected to ask Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to introduce a motion censuring Team Anna. The NDA and the Left both spoken out on Monday, calling Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal's remarks an attack on Parliament. Sushma Swaraj said, "Leaders are being mocked by Team Anna. They are insulting the leaders. We condemn Team Anna for their comments on Sunday." Claiming that Kejriwal was backed by the Ford foundation, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said, "Kejriwal is not God. Kejriwal gets money from Ford foundation. He should show proof to back his allegations." Sharad Yadav said, "How many in Team Anna have gone behind bars in the fight against corruption. This is an attack on Parliament. I demand a resolution should be passed in the House against them. They have been speaking against everyone. We supported them but that does not mean we will support them on every demand." This came in response to Arvind Kejriwal calling all Parliamentarians 'thieves' and 'rapists'. On Sunday, Kejriwal also said that charges could have been filed against 14 ministers had there been a strong Lokpal Bill in place. Kejriwal, however, remained defiant saying he respected Parliament and that he was just worried about Parliament. "We are very worried about the state of Parliament today. I think rather than targeting us, it is extremely important that the whole Parliament sits down and does some introspection. Why is it that when some Parliamentarians tear a bill in Parliament nobody objects to it? When MPs are openly bought and sold and governments are running on the basis of that, does that not insult Parliament? Does that not denigrate Parliament? In 44 years when Parliament does not pass the Lokpal Bill, then is it wrong that the people raise this question and ask Parliament of this country that why a strong Lokpal Bill is not being passed," he questioned. Earlier on Sunday, addressing protestors, Kejriwal had taken the names of around 25 politicians, including ministers Sharad Pawar, SM Krishna, P Chidambaram, Praful Patel, Kapil Sibal, Kamal Nath, Farooq Abdullah, Ajit Singh, Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh, MK Azhagiri and GK Vasan. "If the Lokpal Bill comes into force, FIRs will be lodged against 14 ministers of the Union Government," he said. "Who will punish people like them? Delhi Police or the CBI? No one knows because these people will never pass Lokpal Bill," Kejriwal said.Discover the latest Business News, Sensex, and Nifty updates.
