Bengaluru received the season's first shower on Saturday night and citizens woke up to flooded streets on Monday morning. Since the spell marked the beginning of the city's struggle with flooded roads and aggravated traffic problems, several people took to X to vent their frustration. Some even slammed the civic body for its unpreparedness ahead of the monsoon.
Several areas in Bengaluru witnessed intense downpours (3.6 mm of rain) accompanied by strong winds, following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of light rain and thundershowers for March 22 and 23. Waterlogging caused slow-moving traffic in places like Ramamurthy Nagar underpass, Rupenagrahara, Varthur-Gunjur Road, Hunsmaranahalli (towards the airport), Hebbal, Chikkajala, Yelahanka, and Nagawara.
Visuals of flooded regions of the IT capital of the country have also been doing rounds on social media.
X users also did not hold back from slamming the BMC for their shoddy monsoon preparedness. "Just one rain as first summer rain showed the biggest apathy of all civic authorities how they are prepared & what shoddy works they have done in the past monsoon when it rained heavily," wrote Pramesh Jain (@prameshjain12). Another user Sneta Gupta (@SnetaGupta) commented, "Bengaluru’s classic combo: first rain = instant flood!"
"One rain, all it took was one rain for Bengaluru oh sorry brand Bengaluru in karnaataaakaaaaa to spill out the infrastructure failures done by all the Kannada babus," added Cheeraag Mishra (@CheeraagMishra).
