Meta to soon suspend political content recommendations on Threads

Meta will not "proactively recommend political content from accounts you don't follow" on Threads, the company said in a statement on February 9.

“People have told us they want to see less political content, so we have spent the last few years refining our approach on Facebook to reduce the amount of political content – including from politicians’ accounts – you see in Feed, Reels, Watch, Groups You Should Join, and Pages You May Like,” the statement further read.

Threads users will be allowed to follow accounts that post political content, however, the algorithm that suggests content from users they don't follow will not recommend accounts that post about politics.

Users will have an option that allows them to opt into political recommendations — first on Threads and Instagram, then on Facebook, at an unspecified date.
