Google has reportedly prototyped an Augmented Reality Microscope (ARM) in collaboration with the US Department of Defense.
The instrument uses a mix of Machine Learning (ML) and Augmented Reality (AR) techniques that can help identify cancer in real-time.

The modified light microscope can project real-time analysis and results directly within the field of view of the lens, making it easier for doctors to detect abnormalities.
The microscope has not been used in the field yet, and there are 13 prototypes of ARM that exist and will require more testing before it is released to clinics.

Google wrote in a blog post that the intention was to create a system that could be retrofitted in existing light microscopes found in clinics and hospitals.
According to CNBC, The US Department of Defense's Innovation Unit has negotiated a deal with Google for providing ARM in the military. The final instrument is expected to cost between $90,000 - $100,000 putting it out of reach for more local hospitals and clinics.
