Bengaluru adopts QR code system for emergency situations, offering information on nearest police stations

In Bengaluru, if you find yourself in an emergency situation and are new to the area, you now have the option to scan a QR code to access information about the nearest police station and contact details of officers.

Bengaluru city police has implemented a system where QR code posters are displayed in public spaces. These QR codes allow individuals to easily connect with local police stations by scanning the code, providing a convenient way for residents and visitors to access important information and contact details in case of emergencies or inquiries.

Moneycontrol scanned a QR code in East Bengaluru, which opened a portal containing information about the nearest police station, including the address, inspector's name, email, mobile, and landline contact numbers. The portal is also integrated with Google Maps, assisting users in locating the nearest police station and enabling them to send messages through WhatsApp. It also has an option to report an incident.

"QR code posters are placed in prominent locations like parks, bus stands and Metro stations for people to understand the jurisdiction of each police station. Many people are unaware of which police station to approach in case of an emergency. By using the QR code and Google Maps, they can reach their nearest police station in case of an emergency. This idea came up from one of the participants in a public contact programme, and after discussions, we decided to implement it," B Dayananda, Bengaluru city police commissioner told Moneycontrol.
