Tesla suspends production of Model 3 cars temporarily to resolve delay issues

According to the report, the company has said that the shutdown is an attempt at resolving certain problems that have contributed to the delays.

The pause in production will last for four to five days, the company has said, adding that it is part of the planned downtime, similar to the one observed in February.

A Tesla spokesperson told the website, “Our Model 3 production plan includes periods of planned downtime in both Fremont and Gigafactory 1.”

“These periods are used to improve automation and systematically address bottlenecks in order to increase production rates. This is not unusual and is in fact common in production ramps like this,” he added.

The Elon Musk-led auto maker reached a milestone of producing 2,000 Model 3s per week in the first quarter. However, the number was well short of the 2,500 Model 3s per week goal set for the end of that quarter.

However, the company is still projecting to reach the target of 5,000 Model 3s per week by the end of the first half of 2018, according to the report.

In March, Tesla had said that it had been able to double Model 3’s weekly production by adding a downtime to the production line for short periods. The short periods were used to fix bottlenecks on the line.
