Waqf UMEED portal: 5.17 lakh properties initiated, 2.16 lakh approved as deadline ends

According to the data provided by the ministry of minority affairs, of the total over 8 lakh Waqf properties nationwide, 5,17,040 were initiated on the portal with 2,16,905 properties approved by the designated approvers

Data provided by the ministry of minority affairs reveals that a total of 5.17 lakh Waqf properties were initiated on the UMEED portal, while 2,16,905 properties were approved by the designated approvers.

The UMEED central portal for management of Waqf properties in India, launched by union minister of minority affairs Kiren Rijiju in June, officially closed for uploads on December 6, completing its 6-month window, as per the UMEED Act, 1995 and the clear directions of the Supreme Court of India.

Those who missed the deadline for uploading their details will now have to approach the waqf tribunal, which may grant an extension of up to six months if it is satisfied with the reasons for the delay.

The minority affairs ministry, in a statement, said that in the final count, the momentum significantly accelerated as the deadline approached.
