The Centre on August 5 told the Supreme Court that it has accepted the Bihar government's recommendation for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
A SC bench headed by Justice Hrishikesh Roy observed that “truth behind the actor's death should come out.”
In response, representing the government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the apex court that Bihar government's recommendation for CBI investigation in the case has been accepted.
The statement was made while the SC is hearing a plea by Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty who is seeking transfer of a first information report (FIR) from Patna to Mumbai. The FIR accused her of abetting Rajput’s suicide.
Rajput, aged 34, was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Mumbai on June 14, as per Mumbai police. The police has since probed the case keeping in mind various angles.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy reacted to the news on microblogging site Twitter, saying: “The SC has been informed by the Centre that Sushant case has been handed over to CBI. Have I completed my commitment and free to go?”
On July 29, Swamy joined a chorus of voices demanding CBI investigation into the Sushant Singh Rajput case. He took to Twitter on July 29 saying that he would take up the matter of a CBI inquiry and claimed to have obtained the consent of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in this regard.
