Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on May 27. Built at a cost of Rs 5,300 crore, the four-lane expressway will connect Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and UP Gate in Uttar Pradesh.

Modi will also inaugurate the 135-kilometre long Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) on the same day. The EPE will bypass the national capital and connect Kundli, Haryana with Palwal, Uttar Pradesh. The expressway is expected to keep 50,000 freight trucks out of Delhi, every day.

According to Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, the project is expected to help reduce air pollution in Delhi-NCR by 50 percent.
