In his address to the nation on the eve of the 74th Independence Day, the president complimented the COVID warriors and said the nation is indebted to doctors, nurses and other health workers who have been continuously on the forefront of the country's fight against this virus.
"All corona warriors deserve high praise," Kovind said in his televised address.
He said it is very reassuring to note that the central government, while anticipating the tremendous challenge, responded effectively and well in time.

Singapore may have to consider replacing its existing two-week isolation period norm for all arriving air travelers with a rigorous testing regime to simultaneously control the spread of the coronavirus and revive its status as a global air hub, a senior minister said on Friday.
In a Facebook video, Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said Singapore airport currently ranks 50th globally in terms of air traffic, with just 150 aircraft movements per day, compared to its 7th position with more than 1,000 flights a day prior to the outbreak of the pandemic.
"Serving 14 days isolation is a major deterrent to travellers, and we may have to consider replacing this with a rigorous testing regime. Health and economic considerations are not at odds,we will find ways to revive our air hub and keep Singapore safe,"Ong said.

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh reached 2,335 on Friday after 55 more patients succumbed to the disease, while the caseload rose to 1,45,287 with 4,512 fresh infections, an official said.
Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said there are 50,426 active cases in the state, of which 23,861 are under home isolation.
So far, a total of 92,526 people have been discharged after recovering from the disease, he said.The state's COVID-19 tally was 1,40,775 on Thursday. With 4,512 new cases, the infection tally has now risen to 1,45,287.

Singapore has reported 83 new COVID-19 infections, including four imported cases, taking the country's tally to 55,580, according to the city-state's health ministry. The four imported cases have been placed under Stay-Home Notice (SHN) on arrival.
There was no case from the community for the first time since June 1, said the Ministry of Health (MOH). A vast majority of the new infections are work permit holders currently under quarantine, the ministry said in its preliminary daily update. (Input from PTI)

Kerala is likely to witness a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the months of August and September with daily infections expected to touch between 10,000 to 20,000, State Health Minister K K Shailaja said.
"Experts have opined that during the months of August and September we may witness a surge in COVID-19 cases. We may report between 10,000 to 20,000 cases per day," she said in a video campaign urging the youth to join the "Covid Brigade" to halt the pandemic spread.
Noting that the death rate graph will start rising if the positive cases shoot up, the Minister said it should be stopped.
