The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic has spread across 185 countries and territories. Today is the 39th day of India’s nationwide lockdown, which has been further extended till May 17.
The government has extended the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus by two more weeks from May 4 onwards. The entire country has been colour coded into Red, Orange and Green Zones. The rules are the strictest in the Red Zone districts and progressively gets easier in the Orange and Green Zones.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stand at 37,776. The death toll from the outbreak in India is at 1,223. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases.
Globally, there have been over 33.4 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 2.38 lakh people have died so far. The United States, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the UK are the most-affected countries. Catch the latest updates here:
Coronavirus LIVE updates | Assam to open its borders with other NE states from tomorrow
The Assam government will open its borders with other northeastern states from tomorrow to allow stranded people to return to their homes, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
However, Assam residents stranded in Sikkim will not be allowed to enter the state as they will have to come through West Bengal, Sarma told reporters today. (PTI)

Forty-one people living in a building in southwest Delhi's Kapashera area tested positive for coronavirus today, an official said.
A case of COVID-19 had been reported from the building situated in 'theke wali gali' on April 18, prompting authorities to timely seal it. This helped in containing the spread of coronavirus in the area.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 today, taking the total number of infected persons in the Union Territory to 666, officials said.
The officials said 25 cases were reported from Kashmir Valley, and two from the Jammu region. Of the total number of cases reported so far in the Union Territory, 606 are from Kashmir and 60 from Jammu, they said. (PTI)

Germany has provided 3,000 coronavirus testing kits to Nepal to fight the pandemic. This is part of the bilateral cooperation between Germany and Nepal to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, said a statement by the Embassy of Germany in Kathmandu.
