Kotak Mahindra MF picks oil & gas, cement; sells telecom

Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund has enhanced its coverage in oil & gas, cement & construction and engineering & capital goods sector. However, it reduced its exposure in information technology, telecom and automotive sector.

Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund has enhanced its coverage in oil & gas, cement & construction and engineering & capital goods sector. However, it reduced its exposure in information technology, telecom and automotive sector.

SJVN, GVK Power and ITC were top buys, while TVS Motor, Mercator Lines and SpiceJet were top sells by the fund.
The study of Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund for the month of March 2011 showed that in the oil & gas sector, the fund purchased ONGC, Reliance Industries and HPCL, while it sold Petronet LNG and Chennai Petroleum Corporation.
In the cement & construction pack, it bought Shree Cements, Madras Cements and NCC. It sold Rain Commodities, UltraTech Cement and exited Ambuja Cements in the same pack. (View - All Bulk Deals by Mutual Funds).

The fund bought Alstom Projects, Bharat Heavy Electricals and introduced Mundra Port in the engineering & capital goods sector.
 However, it sold Larsen and Toubro, Tecpro Systems and Havells India. It also exited Commercial Engineers and Body Builders in the same sector.
The selling was seen in the information technology, telecom and automotive sector. In the information technology space, it sold TCS, Infosys Technologies and Oracle Financial Services.
In the telecom segment, it sold Siemens and Tata Communications, while bought Bharti Airtel. (Check out - Which sectors are attracting Fund Managers?)
The fund exited Ashok Leyland and TVS Motor in the automotive sector. It sold Tata Motors, Hero Honda Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra, while it purchased Exide Industries.
