In its survey of the aviation industry, a parliamentary panel chaired by Derek O' Brien inferred that privately-owned IndiGo is the "worst performing" airline for consumers. The panel was charitable in its assessment of beleageured national carrier Air India, which was adjudged to have the best luggage policy.
TMC MP O'Brien, who heads the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Tourism, Culture, Road, Shipping and Aviation, said that the panel took cognisance of the fact that some airlines were charging 8-10 times more than normal fares during the festive season.
However, the official statistics collated by industry regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) present a different picture. According too DGCA data, over the course of the year, IndiGo has been the best performer in terms of on-time service and load factor, while Air India has been a consistent underperformer. The cancellation fee levied by IndiGo and other private airlines are in accordance with international standards.
