Dixon Technologies has received approval from the Indian government to form a joint venture (JV) with Chinese electronics firm Longcheer, further strengthening its foothold in the smartphone and smart device manufacturing space.

According to a regulatory filing dated July 24, the JV will be established with Longcheer’s Singapore-based subsidiary. Dixon will hold 74 percent stake, while 26 percent will be owned by Longcheer.

Once definitive agreements are signed, the JV will operate under the name Dixtel Infocomm, engaging in the manufacturing and supply of smartphones, tablets, true wireless stereo devices, smartwatches, AI PCs, automotive electronics, and healthcare devices.

Dixon said the collaboration would enhance Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) capabilities in India and localise non-semiconductor sub-component manufacturing, a key step in strengthening domestic electronics production.
