In a first of its kind of public private partnership (PPP), pharmaceutical giant Sun Pharma has collaborated with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to eradicate malaria by 2030. Under this programme, ICMR and Sun Pharma will establish 'Malaria Free India' to support the National Framework for Elimination of Malaria that was announced by the Health Ministry in February 2016. The project will first be launched in malaria-ridden district of Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, said Altaf Lal, Senior Advisor, Global Health & Innovation at Sun Pharma. The company has done due diligence before choosing Mandla, he said, adding that the company might look at other places later on where malaria is an issue. Speaking of Sun Pharma’s contribution in the project, Lal said three main elements — committed human resources, active surveillance & strategy and proper distribution system — will be taken into account to calculate the total contribution. Sun Pharma is hopeful of adding more diseases like tuberculosis and diabetes in this eradication list over a period of time. Watch video for more..
