Tata Coffee profits to sweeten as prices double in 1 yr

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Hameed Huq, managing director of Tata Coffee said there has been shrinkage in production of Arabica in Colombia and Central America. This global shortage of high quality washed Arabica has lead to hike in coffee prices.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Hameed Huq, managing director of Tata Coffee said there has been shrinkage in production of Arabica in Colombia and Central America. This global shortage of high quality washed Arabica has led to hike in coffee prices.

"Tata Coffee is probably the single largest producer of washed Arabica in India. We have been benefited by this large bulge in prices in the exchanges," he added.

Q: Could you walk us through what the situation is in terms of the prices globally and whether you expect to see more upside on coffee prices as we have in the last fortnight or so?

A: The prices of both Arabica and Robusta have been spurting. This spurt started sometime in the middle of last year where the market is ruling at about 140 cents to the pound. Yesterday
