Failing crops, ineffective alternate income schemes, and abysmally low crop prices - these are just some of the factors that have led to a spike in the number of debt-related farmer suicides in India's heartland over the last few years.

As part of the 'What's ailing rural India' series, a CNBC-TV18 team traveled to Aurangabad and Maharashtra.
