There was a time when skin consultations felt more like educated guesswork. You’d sit under unforgiving salon lights while an expert squinted, tilted your face, and declared, “You’ve got oily skin, I think.” No data. No proof. Just opinion.

However, modern skin analysis technology now works like a digital dermatologist, using a simple photograph to examine what’s happening not just on the surface, but deep beneath it.

According to Deepak Gupta, Co-Founder, Style Lounge, this shift is long overdue. “For years, people were treating their skin based on assumptions,” he says. "Technology now allows us to replace guesswork with diagnosis. It can read multiple skin parameters at once", he tells Moneycontrol.

Gupta shares how AI helps and what signs of ageing the technology actually sees before you notice them

Beyond wrinkles

It’s not just about wrinkles anymore. The system analyses fine lines, their depth, direction, and even early ageing signs invisible to the naked eye. Skin firmness and elasticity are measured to reveal whether your skin is ageing faster, or slower, than your actual years.

Texture and pores

That dull, tired look often comes down to texture. AI scans roughness, bumps, and enlarged pores, measuring their size and density with precision no mirror can offer.

Pigmentation and tone

Uneven skin tone, sun spots, dark patches, and post-acne marks are mapped individually. The technology can even flag UV damage that hasn’t yet surfaced. “This is where prevention really begins,” notes Gupta.

Acne and inflammation

From blackheads to active breakouts to old scars, every stage of acne is identified. Redness and sensitivity are also measured, ensuring treatments don’t do more harm than good.

Hydration versus oil balance

Many people get this wrong. AI scans different zones—forehead, cheeks, chin—separately. “Most clients discover their skin type isn’t what they thought at all,” Gupta explains.

The under-eye reality check

Dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, this area reveals fatigue and ageing early. The analysis picks up changes long before creams are blamed for “not working”.

The skin health score

All data points are combined into a skin age and health score, offering a clear roadmap for products, treatments, and lifestyle changes.
