One of the questions that a lot of fitness enthusiasts really want to ask is if outdoor running is better than treadmill running. Which one out of the two burns more calories? Which one is more conducive for long run and overall well-being? There are also some people that see no difference between the two.

Moneycontrol's team reached out to a Bengaluru-based fitness coach, Vijay Kumar, to understand the difference between outdoor vs treadmill running. "See, both are effective if you want to achieve cardiovascular fitness. Also, one can meet their goal of burning a certain number of calories by running outdoors as well as running on a treadmill. If one is really confused between which one is better for them, then they need to factor in a few things," shared Kumar.

As per the coach, listed below are some points that talk about advantages of running of treadmills and outdoors:

Benefits of outdoor running:
1. If someone wants to maintain their pace in a controlled manner and is probably new to running, then they should try treadmill running in the first place.
2. Another advantage of running on treadmills is that one can be more consistent with it, as one doesn't have to worry about the weather outside.
3. There are many features available on treadmills via which one adjust their speed and incline level if they have specific goals to achieve.
4. The equipment shows one speed, distance covered, heart rate and more on a continuous basis, making it easier for an individual to track their process.
5. It is also good for people who have problem in their joints, as some of the treadmills come with shock absorption feature.
