Colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer, develops in the colon or rectum and often begins as small, benign growths called polyps. These polyps can gradually transform into cancerous tumours over time. Symptoms of colorectal cancer can vary but commonly include persistent changes in bowel habits such as diarrhoea or constipation, blood in the stool, abdominal discomfort or cramps, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. Early detection is crucial for effective treatment and can significantly improve outcomes. Lifestyle factors such as maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active can lower the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
