Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains to return from Singapore, Assam announces three-day state mourning

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that he will personally travel to Delhi to bring back Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains from Singapore, following the singer’s tragic death in a scuba diving accident.

Zubeen Garg, a well-known Bollywood singer, passed away while scuba diving in Singapore in an unusual accident. The 52-year-old singer from Assam was in Singapore for the 4th North East India Festival, where he was supposed to perform on September 20 and 21.

However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that he will be travelling to Delhi later today to pick up Zubeen Garg's remains.

The CM shared the update on his official X account and tweeted, “Sharing an update: I will be going to Delhi later today to receive our beloved Zubeen’s mortal remains from Singapore. From there we will immediately bring him back to Guwahati, hopefully by 6 am.”
The CM also shared that Zubeen Garg’s family members, including his father and wife, will pay their final respects at his home in Guwahati. The remains will then be brought to Sarusajai Stadium, where the public can pay their respects.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It hasn’t been decided yet on when and where the cremation will take place. Any decision on whether his remains will be taken to his hometown Jorhat will be taken after consultations with family, his close associates, and organisations.”

Additionally, the Assam government has announced that September 20–22 would be three days of state mourning. The CM has also shared that the state government has decided to declare a holiday on the day the last rites of Garg are performed.
