Bollywood is known for its high-profile feuds, with several actors reportedly refusing to share screen space or even interact on set. Among them are Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu, who had co-starred in Abbas-Mastan's film, Race, but they avoided each other during filming.
During her 2008 appearance at Koffee With Karan, Katrina subtly talked about her rift with Bipasha and also teased the reason behind the drama. Karan asked Katrina at the time, “Bipasha and you have steamy stuff anyways happening. You don't look at each other or talk to each other.”
However, Katrina responded to Karan’s question and noted that he should ask Bipasha. She also noted that both she and Bipasha are in the industry to work, and Bipasha is putting in effort to build her reputation and gain recognition.
Katrina said, “That is something, that honestly, you will have to ask her. I did try and clarify my views and my standpoint on the whole issue surrounding nothing. At the end of the day, I'm here to work, and I definitely know so is she.”
The actress added, “She is a person who's working very hard in the industry, and I think that's definitely where she wants to be. And today, I state very clearly that I think you're a wonderful person. I genuinely, actually do."
Katrina Kaif addresses her rivalry with Bipasha Basu
Katrina Kaif admitted during the same episode that she and Bipasha Basu are not on talking terms. However, Katrina also noted that she loves Bipasha as an actress despite the tension between them.
The actress said, “I think she's amusing, and she's quite funny, and she's opinionated. I like that. And somewhere along the line, I think maybe a third party has just come in between and caused this. And I think that's what happens a lot in this industry.”
She explained, “Some people come and say, 'Oh, but I actually think she meant this, and no, actually what she was trying to say was this'. Yeah, which is sad because I'm really not like that as a person. I will never and if that ever happens, I hope one of my six sisters shoots me in the head.”
Bipasha Basu admitted she and Katrina Kaif don’t talk
Bipasha Basu also reflected her strained relationship with Katrina Kaif and admitted that she doesn’t get along with her. She also recalled that the tension between them had sparked during the set of Race because of their boyfriends. Katrina was dating Salman Khan while Bipasha was in a relationship with John Abraham at the time.
During an episode of Star Trek with Anna M.M. Vetticad, Bipasha shared, “Katrina and I don't talk. So there is nothing really earth-shattering about it. The tension between us has been created for a particular reason.”
The actress added, “I know the reason and I know why it's been done and I'll never share that with anybody. It could be because of our boyfriends but that never affected our work. We didn’t speak during Race but that never stopped shooting.”
