For fans of the Wizarding World, this year’s Back to Hogwarts Day brought with it a magical surprise. Warwick Davis, who won hearts as Professor Filius Flitwick in the original Harry Potter films, will once again don the wizard’s robes for HBO’s upcoming television reboot.

The series, which is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2027, will retell J.K. Rowling’s book saga with greater depth, exploring storylines that never made it into the films.

Davis’ return marks a rare link between the beloved film franchise and the new series. So far, he is the only actor confirmed to reprise their original role, giving longtime fans a sense of continuity as a fresh cast steps into the world of Hogwarts.

HBO also revealed a wave of new casting announcements. Among the Hogwarts students are Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash as Gregory Goyle. The staff will feature Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden as the ghostly Professor Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey. Over at Gringotts, Leigh Gill has been cast as the goblin Griphook.
