Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna has come out in strong support of Gaurav Khanna amid rising controversy around the originality of his show-stopping dessert on Celebrity MasterChef. Social media has been abuzz with claims that Gaurav’s visually striking creation was a copy of a dish shared earlier by Swiss chef Dives Josh.
Gaurav’s dessert, presented in a wine glass with syrup elegantly cascading over a honeycomb-shaped pavlova, featured ginger as its core ingredient. The judges were left visibly stunned. Vikas Khanna dropped his spoon in amazement, Farah Khan blew a chef’s kiss, and Ranveer Brar tapped his spoon in awe—all before even tasting the dish.
In response to plagiarism accusations, Vikas took to social media, writing, “For all those who are commenting on the brilliant dish made by Gaurav Khanna, please let me know which chef created it first in the world. Meringue dripping cones have been done for decades. It was the overall flavour profile and presentation that shook us.”
He doubled down on his praise by posting a video celebrating the dish, captioned, “Very rarely you witness Culinary Greatness like this one. I have to admit that this year’s MasterChef was next level benchmark for us. I only wish every celebrity contestant the very best.”
Previousy after the promo from the episode was out, Swiss chef Dives Josh subtly called out the alleged copy by reposting the promo and captioning it, “Well done, so creative...” with a smirking emoji. He also shared his original dessert video on his Instagram story, labeling it “the original.”
The debate has since sparked a broader discussion online about culinary inspiration versus plagiarism, and where the line truly lies in modern gastronomy.
