On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, celebrated composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan extended his heartfelt wishes and spoke about the qualities that make Modi a unique leader in the eyes of millions of Indians.

“The beauty about this gentleman is his humanitarian side,” Mahadevan said, highlighting the Prime Minister’s ability to connect with people in a simple, relatable way. “You don’t feel this is a complicated person. You feel like he’s one part of your family. That is his beauty.”

The musician praised PM Narendra Modi for paying close attention to the people he interacts with, whether it’s an individual, a state, or the entire nation. “He sees to it that when he’s talking, he pays attention to who is in front of him. He understands their background, their sensibilities, and molds himself accordingly. If he’s speaking in Gujarat, he becomes Narendrabhai, not just the Prime Minister. People feel, ‘Are, apna Narendrabhai.’ That’s the effort of a true leader.”

Mahadevan went on to emphasise how India’s global image has changed under Modi’s leadership. “Now when we travel, we feel proud to be Indians. Things have changed drastically. The old perception of India as a poor country is gone. Today, people are looking up to us.”

Reflecting on his own life choices, the composer shared, “I had the chance to go abroad and settle in the US as an engineer, but I stayed here. Today I feel that was the most wonderful decision because India is the most beautiful place to be in. And I think he is responsible for making us feel proud of our country.”
