Raju Weds Rambai has been in the news recently for multiple reasons. This small budget film has garnered enough attention on the internet and also many members of the film fraternity have showered their support for the film. As this Telugu film hits the scenes today, here's the review.
Story:
Rambai Raju Weds Rambai is based on real events that happened roughly twenty years ago. The story takes place in a village close to Yellendu, Telangana, which was then part of Andhra Pradesh. Story Raju (Akhil Uddemari) hails from a family that doesn't have a lot of money. Shivaji Raja, his father, used to be in a band, but he departed the profession years ago.
Raju is proud to carry on that legacy, even if the work doesn't pay much and others don't appreciate him for it. Raju's father continues encouraging him to travel to Hyderabad and acquire a steady job, but his heart is in his hometown and with Rambai. Rambai (Tejaswi Rao) is a college student whose family is a little better off than most.
Her father, Chaitu Jonnalagadda, is a compounder at the rural primary health center and is quite proud of his government job. He also wants to locate a son-in-law who is just as good. Raju and Rambai start dating in secret, but soon the news gets out thanks to the local gossip. Raju's dad orders him to go away, but the young lover won't do it.
He is determined to stay true to both his love and his work. When Rambai's dad finds out about the connection, there is a battle that ends in very emotional fights and terrible effects. He accepts to their marriage in the end, but there is more to the story. Will Raju and Rambai's hopes come true in the end?
Analysis:
Raju Weds Rambai has a clear message. Recent Telugu and Tamil movies have recounted similar stories about love in the country, but this one is different because of a twist that arises late in the plot and modifies how it is told. The filmmaker even calls the plot "the greatest love story," which can mean multiple things but is undoubtedly backed up by the movie's surprising ending.
The movie makes a great argument about a socially essential truth: wanting to safeguard family honor isn't just for rich people. It also affects backward populations, even those in the same caste group. This approach, set against a real rural background, gives the story depth. The way the movie is made follows a common pattern: countryside romance, young people talking, friendship scenes, and rustic details.
The movie keeps people's interest even if it is sometimes predictable and drags on. There are emotional passages with the hero's father, moments when the couple plans to be intimate, and funny touches that work well. The last twist is the best part of the movie. But the long narration, parts that repeat, and sudden changes in significant moments take away from the overall effect.
Performances:
Akhil Uddemari plays Raju in a grounded way that shows both his innocence and his damaged masculinity. Tejaswi Rao is really good, especially in the second half. Chaitu Jonnalagadda stands out as the best actor, playing the egotistical village father with amazing realism. Shivaji Raja and Anitha Chowdary are both very helpful, and Anitha is especially good at speaking in dialect.

Technicalities
The background music by Suresh Bobbili adds to the story wonderfully. The first-time director shows promise, especially in the emotional parts.
Verdict:
Raju Weds Rambai is a rustic period romance with a strong social message and a shocking ending. The movie is better because of the strong acting, but the slow pace and familiar story make it less powerful overall. A touching love story with an unexpected ending. It's interesting, but it has some problems.
