Months after debuting on November 18, 2024, South Indian superstar Nayanthara's Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, has stirred up controversy once more.
For allegedly using copyrighted film footage without permission, the documentary—which offered viewers a glimpse into the actress's personal and professional life—is currently under legal scrutiny.
Legal Notice Regarding Chandramukhi Video
The 2005 blockbuster Chandramukhi's copyright holders, AP International, have sent a legal notice to the documentary's producers alleging that snippets of the movie were used without their permission, according to a report by Cinema Express. The Rajinikanth-Nayanthara film was a huge hit, and the documentary team did not get the necessary permission before using any of its footage.
The project has received criticism before. Actor Dhanush had previously publicly protested the documentary's unauthorised use of a scene from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
Demanded Compensation, Ordered Earnings Disclosure
According to AP International's legal team, Nayanthara and her production team received previous notices requesting the removal of the Chandramukhi footage and Rs 5 crore in compensation. They assert, though, that their cautions were disregarded.
According to the most recent information, the court ordered Tarc Studios and Netflix to take the Chandramukhi footage out of the documentary right away. Additionally, as part of the legal action brought by the original film's producers, both parties have been asked to reveal the profits made from the documentary.
Nayanthara's silence
Nayanthara has not made any public comments about the accusations or the court order in spite of the escalating controversy. Tarc Studios and Netflix have also kept quiet about the situation.
