Veteran actress Neena Gupta, who is being loved for her performance as Manju Devi in 'Panchayat Season 3', revealed in an interview that she does feel jealous of her friends when they land a role she had also auditioned for.
In a candid interview with India Today, 64-year-old Neena Gupta said jealousy is something you cannot do away with, and she accepted feeling jealous of her friend and actress Sunita Rajwar for landing a role that the two were asked to audition for.
Neena Gupta revealed how a young filmmaker had once offered her a role, but she came to know that the same person was also in touch with Sunita Rajwar, who is a close friend of hers.
“I kept wondering why she would reach out to both of us if she didn’t want to cast me. Sunita and I are very good friends, but we look so different from each other, so how can one approach both of us for the same role? There are no similarities,” she laughed.
Talking further about losing the role, she says there is some jealousy too. "There is a bit of jealousy. I feel jealous when my friends or contemporaries bag apart and I don’t, but I also take it in a good spirit," she further said.
Sunita is also seen in the role of Kranti Devi in 'Panchayat' and recently walked the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. She represented her film, 'Santosh', in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
Sunita was also seen in the hit TV shows 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai', 'Ramayan', and 'Hitler Didi', to name a few. Her role in Gullak is much loved, and she will soon be seen in the fourth installment of the hit series on SonyLIV.
In an exclusive conversation with Showsha, Neena Gupta also spoke about the time when she would do roles as per the need of the hour.
“Need ke hisaab se it (the choice of script) has changed. Pehle zarurat thi paise ki zyada toh paise ke liye bahaut bure bure kaam karne padte the. Kai baar mai bhagwan se prarthna karti thi ki yeh picture release hi na ho. Ab mai na keh sakti hoon, pehle kabhi na nahi keh sakti thi. Jo script mujhe bahut achi lagti hai, role bahut acha lagta hai woh haan karti hoon aur jo nahin acha lagta woh nahin karti hoon," she said.
