Mayasabha review: Chaitanya Rao and Aadhi Pinisetty’s political drama is gripping and makes it worth watching

Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans is a compelling political drama set in the 1990s in Andhra Pradesh, when things were highly unstable.  The show shows how two strong political leaders went from being excellent friends to bitter enemies.

The story is based on real people and depicts how the characters are based on Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy's thoughts and lives affect each other.  It shows how their loyalty changed, their ambitions changed, and the high-stakes power struggles that changed the state's political climate.

Mayasabha is a new Telugu-language political drama web series that is being made by Deva Katta and Kiran Jay Kumar.  Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni and Sree Harsha run Hitmen & Proodos Productions LLP, which makes the show.

The main actors are Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao. Divya Dutta, Sai Kumar, Srikanth Iyengar, and Nassar are among well-known cast members.

The first three episodes set up the background of both Reddy and Naidu, and give us a clear picture of their families, social status, and what all they had to go through to reach what they wanted to be, against all the odds. Both of them have their ideologies but the common agenda is to bring a change in the society through making a change in the political system.

These three episodes show us the accident that brings them together and the rest of the episodes throw a strong light onto their political journey but most importantly their friendship.

The world knows Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy as political rivals but the fact is that they were thick friends.

But what has actually happened is something only both of them know. The web series, which is fiction up to some part, gives the audience a proper understanding of their lives.

Coming to the performances, Chaitanya Rao has done a great job. Chaitanya, who became popular in the industry with 20 Weds 31, has been choosing projects very wisely, and Mayasabha is one of the best projects he picked up till date. He played Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy in this web series and lived up to the mark.

The character of Nara Chandrababu Naidu was played by Aadhi Pinisetty and he was a perfect choice for this character. Both the actors have done an amazing job and carried the series on their shoulders, making it better with each episode.

Divya Dutta plays Iravati Basu and we can understand that she has played Indira Gandhi. This series marks her debut in Telugu. For such a powerful character, Divya has justice and in fact she has made the series a lot more interesting keeping the political situation back then in mind.

Director Deva Katta’s writing and direction have to be appreciated a lot. It is evident that he has done a lot of research and homework while writing. Screenplay is tight and to the point without any unnecessary lag or scenes. Deva has shown the culture of rural areas and society back then really well.

Music and background score are composed by Shakthikanth Karthick and he deserves a special mention for it. Suresh Ragutu and Gnana Sekhar are the cinematographers of the series and they managed to capture the essence of the rural areas really well.

The political drama is not just thrilling, but also has a lot to learn from. Back to the time when Andhra Pradesh was a single state, there were not many political parties. But how they all have emerged is something that is shown really well.

The web series has clearly shown that college elections play a key role in the making of leaders. The ideologies that were in the minds of youngsters back then, keeping things such as financial status, caste, creed and religion in mind, and how they affected the society are also shown well. The faction and the revenges that used to take a shape in the form of killings, and how it was affecting the next generations to come.

On the whole, Mayasabha is a must watch if you are someone who loves watching series based on real life stories and especially if they are political dramas.
