However, this is not the first time that Lakshmi has been questioned in the case. Previously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned the actress in relation to an ongoing money-laundering investigation concerning the advertising of purportedly illicit betting and gambling applications.
Her summons comes after other actors, including Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati, were questioned.

Lakshmi was reportedly questioned about her endorsements of certain betting apps, any contracts she signed, and the money she was paid. In accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the agency is allegedly collecting information regarding financial transactions and will document her statement.

This investigation is the result of a complaint made by businessman PM Phanindra Sarma, which led to the filing of an FIR at the Miyapur Police Station in March 2024. The Public Gambling Act of 1867 was allegedly broken by the endorsement of online betting apps by a number of Telugu movie stars, TV personalities, and influencers.
