Popular South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has found himself at the center of a scandal after claims of a romantic relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron. In a shocking revelation, Kim Sae Ron’s aunt has accused Kim Soo Hyun of contributing to her niece's tragic death, alleging that the actress felt “betrayed” by him in the final months of her life.
During an appearance on Kim Se Ui’s YouTube channel, Garosero Research Institute, Kim Sae Ron’s aunt stated that the actors began dating in 2015 when Kim Sae Ron was just 15 years old, while Kim Soo Hyun was 27. They were together for six years until 2021. The aunt went on to explain that in 2019, when Kim Soo Hyun started his management company, GOLD MEDALIST, Kim Sae Ron supported him by offering her services, including directing new talent and teaching acting lessons.
However, things took a darker turn after the couple’s breakup in 2022. Kim Sae Ron found herself embroiled in a drunk driving incident but received substantial support from Kim Soo Hyun and his company. GOLD MEDALIST paid ₩700 million KRW (approximately $483,000 USD) as damages on her behalf without asking for reimbursement, something Kim Sae Ron was deeply grateful for. Despite her gratitude, the actress felt compelled to work hard to repay the company.
However, after her contract with GOLD MEDALIST ended, things became increasingly complicated. Kim Sae Ron was unexpectedly asked to repay the ₩700 million KRW, leaving her shocked. Attempts to reach Kim Soo Hyun were met with silence, which, according to her aunt, led Kim Sae Ron to feel betrayed. “The media even got involved, and it broke her,” the aunt claimed.
The aunt further stated that Kim Soo Hyun’s company released a negative statement about the late actress, contributing to her struggles. “Unable to repay the ₩700 million KRW, Kim Sae Ron was financially burdened, which led her to commit suicide on Soo Hyun’s birthday,” she said. She also confirmed that the family holds evidence of the six-year relationship.
