Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter is all set to star in her first big studio picture. The upcoming musical is based on Lewis Carroll's beloved book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures has greenlit the untitled project, which will be written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, the director of Hustlers and The Meddler.
Sabrina Carpenter will also co-produce the film with Marc Platt under his Universal-based banner, Marc Platt Productions. The film will be produced by Alloy Entertainment's Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton.
Sources close to the development told the outlet that Scafaria joined the project as writer and director as it developed after Sabrina first presented the idea to Universal in 2024.
However, this is not the first time Sabrina will been seen on the screen. The singer and the actress has previously appeared in Netflix films such as Tall Girl and The Hate U Give.
Interestingly, Netflix acquired a musical adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland" from Carpenter's At Last Productions in 2020, but the project never proceeded.
The book has inspired several movies and musicals. From Tim Burton's 2010 live-action reimagining starring Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp to Walt Disney's cherished 1951 animated classic, the fanciful story of a young girl's journey through a surreal, dreamlike world populated by eccentric characters has been adapted for film and television on numerous occasions.

However, she took a hiatus from acting in recent years to focus on her music career. She is notably thriving in her music career and earned six Grammy nominations for her seventh studio album ‘Man’s Best Friend,’ including nods for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
