With the release of Rajinikanth's historic 171st movie, Coolie, on OTT, fans will be able to enjoy the superstar's most recent action-packed performance right in their homes.
Coolie, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is a celebration of Rajinikanth's 50 years in the motion picture business rather than merely another entry into his illustrious filmography. The movie tells the tale of a former coolie union leader who breaks up a dangerous crime syndicate while investigating the cause of his friend's death.
With a net collection of Rs 282.46 crore in India and Rs 176.65 crore abroad, the film has had an incredible run at the box office, increasing its total gross to an astounding Rs 510 crore. Naturally, the buzz has now shifted to its digital release — and with good reason.
Less than a month after its successful theatrical run, the movie will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 11, 2025. Fans are excitedly anticipating this development.
According to the Economic Times, Amazon Prime Video acquired the streaming rights for a massive ₹120 crore, making it one of the most high-profile OTT deals in the Tamil film industry.
Rajinikanth is joined by a powerhouse ensemble including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Rachita Ram, with Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde making special appearances. The film was produced by under the Kalanithi Maran banner of Sun Pictures.
Although Coolie's high-octane action and widespread appeal have enthralled audiences, not all critics were equally impressed.
A part of review by Moneycontrol read, “Rajinikanth's performance doesn't need any special mention here because isn't it obvious that he nailed it? Nagarjuna, for the first time, played an antagonist and nobody could have done it better than him. Aamir Khan as Dahaa is an absolute stunner and delight to watch on the screen. Upendra, though his role was a short one, has done a great job in an impactful role. His entry into the plot is whistle worthy. Aamir Khan played the superior to Simon while Upendra played Rajinikanth's aid. Shruti Hassan is a perfect choice for the character of Preethi. She runs the entire plot along with Rajinikanth and the story would definitely be incomplete without her."
With its OTT debut just around the corner, Coolie is set to captivate a whole new wave of viewers, proving once again that Rajinikanth’s appeal knows no bounds — on or off the big screen.
