BTS' SUGA is currently under scrutiny since he was found in violation of traffic laws due to drunk driving. The incident occurred on August 6th, at approximately 11:27 PM, when SUGA was found by a police officer after falling from an electric scooter on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The officer, upon assisting him, noticed that SUGA was intoxicated and took him to the police station for a breathalyzer test. The test revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.227%, a concentration high enough to warrant license revocation.
Sharing updates about the ongoing investigation at a press conference, an official from the National Police Agency said that they are coordinating the schedule to summon SUGA to the police station for questioning regarding the incident. The police emphasised that they plan to apply the same standards used for other suspects and will follow standard procedures for summoning a suspect.
They also shared how SUGA did not recall specific details of the investigation, suggesting that his belief in the matter being resolved might have been influenced by “him being drunk.”
According to reports from Yonhap News and Newsis, there was a discrepancy between SUGA’s statement, where he claimed that the investigation concluded with his license being revoked and a fine imposed, and the police’s account. The police clarified that they usually provide details on the remaining procedures when taking action against someone, and they expressed uncertainty about why SUGA made that statement. It is suggested that this might be due to his inebriated state at the time, leading to a lack of accurate recollection.

Moreover, the police plan to finalise the schedule for SUGA’s investigation within the week, adhering to protocol by not summoning him on weekends or at night, consistent with procedures for other suspects. During the press conference, a police official mentioned that they are working with SUGA’s representatives to move forward with the investigation, intending to examine all aspects of the circumstances leading up to the drunk-driving incident in detail.
The controversy surrounding BIGHIT MUSIC’s reference to an electric kickboard instead of a scooter in their initial statement was also addressed by the police. They indicated that they will thoroughly investigate any discrepancies and confirmed that on the night of the incident, they provided a detailed explanation of the DUI case procedure to SUGA.
