Rhea Chakraborty has recently received a clean chit from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's case.
The CBI has claimed that there is no proof that Rhea Chakraborty or anybody else "illegally confined, threatened, or abetted to commit suicide" the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Additionally, there was no evidence in CBI’s closure report that Rhea stole Sushant's assets or money. Officials have also claimed that the CBI even mentioned that Sushant called Rhea "family."
According to the documents obtained by Hindustan Times, the report stated “None of the accused persons had lived or stayed with him between June 8, 2020, and June 14, 2020—the day he was found hanging in his Bandra flat.”
It further stated that there was no communication with Rhea on June 10th, even though Sushant had a WhatsApp conversation with Showik Chakraborty at that time. Days before he passed away, from June 8 to June 12, his sister, Meetu Singh, stayed with him.
Sushant's family responded to the report furiously, claiming that the CBI's conclusions were deceptive and lacking.
Sushant's family lawyer, Advocate Varun Singh, debunked the claims and said, “This is nothing but an eyewash. If CBI really wanted to come out with the truth, it would have submitted all the supporting case documents including chats, technical records, statements of witnesses, medical records, etc. We will file a protest petition against this closure report, which is based on a shoddy investigation."
Claims of coercion, embezzlement, and wrongful confinement are rejected in the agency's report. It also mentions that on June 8, Rhea and her brother only took personal items—an Apple laptop and a watch that Sushant had given them—when they left his house.
The report claims that "no evidence has emerged of any property being dishonestly taken out of Sushant's possession."
After two cases were filed, one by Rhea against Sushant's sisters in Mumbai and the other by Sushant's father, K.K. Singh, who claimed financial exploitation and abetment, the CBI's investigation lasted for more than four years.
The agency discovered that Sushant's lawyer and chartered accountant were in complete control of his finances. Additionally, it found that Rhea-related costs, such as their 2019 trip to Europe, were acceptable and voluntary.
Varun Singh argued that the report was "flimsy" and that it was insufficient to merely state that Sushant's account had not been used to withdraw money. CBI ought to have supported its claim with a bank statement.
The case, which sparked political discussions in Bihar and Mumbai as well as widespread indignation, will be heard again on December 20 when a Patna court examines the closure report. The family of Sushant is steadfast in their pursuit of what they consider to be long-overdue justice.
