BLACKPINK’s Lisa has once again found herself at the center of controversy after American rapper Azealia Banks launched a series of racist and transphobic attacks against the Thai-born K-pop superstar. The incident unfolded after celebrity creative director Brett Alan Nelson, known for his collaborations with major global artists, posted on Instagram about his recent work with Doja Cat on her track Jealous Type. Some social media users speculated that the track’s strong debut had surpassed Lisa’s record-breaking solo streaming numbers, although this was later proven to be false.
Despite the clarification, Banks seized the opportunity to lash out, leaving a derogatory comment on Nelson’s post. She criticized the video, attributing its perceived shortcomings to his collaboration with “that young mukbang,” a term widely seen as a racial slur directed toward Lisa. Soon after, Banks escalated matters further by sharing a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), once again spreading the false claim that Lisa is transgender—a remark she has repeatedly used to insult the singer in the past.
Her inflammatory statements quickly went viral, sparking massive outrage among fans and netizens. Supporters of Lisa condemned Banks’ baseless insults, labeling them not only offensive but also deeply rooted in envy and bitterness. One fan questioned her motives, writing, “Does it hurt you so much that Lisa is more beautiful and famous than you?” Another highlighted her ignorance, pointing out that visible Adam’s apples are not exclusive to men, debunking her transphobic narrative.
