Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is all set to make his comeback with the upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par. The film is set to release in the theatres in June, and recent reports have suggested that the actor will skip the traditional OTT release of the film. Instead, he will choose the ‘pay-per-view’ method.
According to The Hollywood Reporter India reports, Aamir Khan wants to use the pay-per-view method for the upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par.
A source told the outlet, “Aamir doesn’t want to release his films directly on streaming after their theatrical run, as it discourages viewers from watching movies on the big screen. It is also a reason why there is no streaming logo on the poster of Sitaare Zameen Par.”
For the unversed, in the pay-per-view, people only have to pay for the movie they want to watch, unlike subscription-based services, where you pay for access to a whole library of content. It's similar to buying a movie ticket at a theatre, where you pay for one specific film.
The actor has recently shared his frustration with the shrinking Bollywood movies business over the past few years during his appearance at Waves Summit 2025. The actor blamed the quick release of films on OTT platforms following their theatrical run.
Aamir will return to the silver screen with a Taare Zameen Par sequel after around three years. The film features an ensemble cast including Genelia Deshmukh in the lead role.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the upcoming sequel is based on the 2018 Spanish film Champions. Sitaare Zameen Par will be released in the theatres on June 20.
Besides this, Aamir will also be having a special cameo in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie. The film is scheduled to release in August 2025.
